Common questions

The Sacramento Botanical Garden is a community-driven effort to create a world-class destination dedicated to plants, education, conservation, and public enjoyment. The garden will offer diverse plant collections, California native landscapes, accessible walking paths, a solar-powered, water gardens, educational spaces, art installations, event venues, and a garden-to-fork restaurant. Designed for residents and visitors of all ages, the garden aims to provide a place to learn, relax, celebrate, and reconnect with nature while promoting sustainability, biodiversity, and environmental awareness in a rapidly growing region.

The project is currently in its early planning phase and does not yet have a permanent location. Organizers are building community support, working with local leaders, evaluating potential sites, and preparing for feasibility studies and master planning. Early donations and volunteer involvement are critical to securing a site and moving the project forward. Supporters can contribute by donating, joining the mailing list, volunteering, sharing the vision, or contacting local officials. Once a location is confirmed, the project will advance to design and construction, with updates shared as the Sacramento Botanical Garden progresses from vision to reality.

The Sacramento Botanical Garden is a community-driven effort to create a world-class destination dedicated to plants, nature, education, and conservation. Botanical gardens are often described as “living museums”—places that cultivate and display diverse plant collections for scientific research, learning, and public enjoyment.

Our vision is to bring that experience to Sacramento: a beautiful, immersive space where visitors can explore gardens, attend events, learn about sustainability, and reconnect with the natural world.

Not yet—but it is actively in development.
Right now, the Sacramento Botanical Garden exists as a vision supported by volunteers, community members, and early donors. We are currently focused on the critical first step: securing a permanent location.
This early phase is where many transformational projects begin—and where community support matters most.

The Sacramento Botanical Garden is envisioned as a dynamic, world-class destination featuring:

  • Diverse plant collections from around the world
  • California native plant gardens
  • Walking paths designed for accessibility and exploration
  • Use of renewable resources to power operations
  • Water gardens and seasonal displays
  • Educational exhibits and student learning spaces
  • Outdoor art and cultural experiences
  • A garden-to-fork restaurant
  • Event spaces for weddings and community gatherings

It will be a place where people can learn, relax, celebrate, and connect with nature.

Because the garden does not yet exist, early funding is critical.

Before construction can begin, significant work must be completed—such as site selection, environmental studies, and master planning. These early steps are the most difficult to fund, yet they determine whether the project can move forward at all.

Your support helps turn this vision into reality.
